King Charles shared a laugh with Declan Donnelly during a reception at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. The event celebrated the winners of the 20th Prince’s Trust Awards.

The presenter took to X to thank fans for their 'kind messages' after announcing the birth of his son Wilder on Tuesday

During the reception, the King, 75, asked Dec, who attended with his wife Ali Astall, where his usual co-host, Ant McPartlin, was. Dec humorously explained that Ant was “too busy breastfeeding” his newborn son, Wilder, who was born a week ago. King Charles congratulated Ant on becoming a father for the first time.

Ant made his first public appearance on Tuesday evening at the 2024 National Prince's Trust and TK Maxx & Homesense Awards since becoming a father for the first time.

The Prince’s Trust Awards honor young people who have overcome significant challenges, including poor mental health, educational difficulties, and youth unemployment, with support from the Trust. The 2024 winners span categories such as Enterprise Award, Education Award, and Young Achiever Award.

King Charles asked: 'Is it his first one [child]?' Dec responded: 'Yeah, it's his first one. They've got daughters from previous marriages but it's his first one.' 'So will you please give him my many congratulations', King Charles added

Ant made his first public appearance since his son’s birth at the National Prince’s Trust and TK Maxx & Homesense Awards on Tuesday. He later addressed fans on X, thanking them for their kind messages and clarifying that his dog Hurley was included in his new family tree tattoo, despite initial appearances.

Ant shared a photo of the tattoo, showing Hurley’s name on his shoulder, covered by his newborn son in earlier images.
