“Real Time” host Bill Maher dismissed the controversy surrounding Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s recent graduation speech, stating that he fails to see “what the big crime is.”

Butker’s comments during his commencement address at Benedictine College sparked backlash from the political left.

During a panel discussion, Maher sarcastically ridiculed critics for portraying Butker as “history’s greatest monster.” “I can’t express how much this guy is not like me,” Maher quipped. “He’s religious. He loves marriage. He loves kids… And he’s now history’s greatest monster.”

“I don’t agree with much with this guy, but I don’t see what the big crime is,” Maher continued, referencing Butker’s remarks about marriage and family. “I really don’t. And I think this is part of the problem people have with the left—lots of people in this country are like this.”

Maher suggested that Butker’s views reflect a traditional mindset that many people still hold. He criticized the notion that there is only one path to being a good person, such as obtaining an advanced degree from elite institutions like Harvard.
