Megyn Kelly has ignited controversy by urging fans to boycott Taylor Swift following the singer’s attendance at a Gaza fundraising event alongside Selena Gomez amid the Israel-Hamas conflict. Kelly vehemently criticized Swift for her involvement, particularly highlighting her participation in comedian Ramy Youssef’s show, which donated proceeds to the American Near East Refugee Aid (Anera). On her SiriusXM show, Kelly, 53, cited the Jerusalem-based organization NGO Monitor, which portrays Anera as “highly political” and accused it of presenting a biased view of the Israel-Palestine conflict, omitting Palestinian responsibility and contributing to the demonization of Israel.
Expressing her dismay, Kelly emphasized that Swift’s support for such an event was deeply troubling. She went on to suggest that Swift owes both Israelis and Jewish Americans an apology for her actions. In a bold move, Kelly urged Swift’s fanbase, known as “Swifties,” to boycott her events until she issues a formal apology.
Furthermore, Kelly stressed the importance of awareness, urging Swift to educate herself on the realities of the conflict, particularly regarding the treatment of marginalized groups in Gaza. She emphasized the need for Swift to understand the broader implications of her actions and the responsibility that comes with her platform.
Swift’s attendance at the charity event sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many expressing disappointment and calling for accountability. The StopAntisemitism organization, in particular, criticized Swift for her silence on the conflict, contrasting it with her bodyguard’s service in the Israeli Defense Forces.
Despite the backlash, some defended Swift’s decision, arguing that she was entitled to support humanitarian efforts in Gaza. However, Kelly’s stance remains firm, emphasizing the need for Swift to acknowledge the implications of her actions and take responsibility for them.
As the controversy continues to unfold, Swift’s representatives have been contacted for comment, indicating that the fallout from her involvement in the Gaza fundraiser is far from over.
