Prince Harry to Attend UK Invictus Event Without Senior Royal Family Members

In a surprising announcement, Prince Harry is set to attend a UK Invictus event without the presence of any senior members of the Royal Family. This decision precedes his upcoming non-official royal tour of Nigeria. Notably, his wife Meghan will not be accompanying him for the event.

The Duke of Sussex, aged 39, is scheduled to fly to Britain in just over a week, marking his first visit since Princess Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis. However, neither the Sussexes’ office nor Buckingham Palace has confirmed any plans for Harry to meet with other senior royals, such as his brother Prince William, sister-in-law Princess Kate, or his father King Charles.

During his visit, Prince Harry is expected to participate in a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral on May 8, commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games. However, it remains uncertain whether Meghan, aged 42, and their two children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet – will attend the event.

Following his time in the UK, Prince Harry will travel to Nigeria to join Meghan for an unofficial royal visit. The couple has been invited by the country’s chief of defence staff to engage in cultural activities and meet with service members and their families.

While some speculate that Prince Harry’s visit to Nigeria signals a return to public duty, royal experts suggest otherwise, noting Harry’s lack of desire for such a role. The visit comes amid ongoing legal discussions regarding Prince Harry’s taxpayer-funded personal security during visits to Britain.

Despite hopes for reconciliation within the Royal Family, experts deem it unlikely, citing existing tensions and conflicts. Nevertheless, the Invictus Games Foundation is set to celebrate its ten-year milestone at St Paul’s Cathedral, with Prince Harry expected to provide a reading. However, Meghan’s involvement in the event remains uncertain.

As the event coincides with their son Archie’s fifth birthday, it is speculated that Meghan will remain in California with their children. The couple currently resides in Montecito, California, with their two children, Archie and Princess Lilibet.
