Meghan Markle’s New Fashion Trend: Long Outfits Creating a Stylish Illusion

Meghan Markle’s chic style has evolved since she and Prince Harry stepped down as working royals and moved to California. As they continue their ‘quasi-royal’ duties, a new trend has emerged in Meghan’s wardrobe: outfits that are noticeably long, often dragging on the floor.

The Duchess has worn long ensembles throughout the years including on her trip to Morocco in 2019

Rather than tailoring her maxi outfits to fit her 5ft 6in frame, Meghan often wears trousers, skirts, and dresses that add to her chic style but extend past her feet. This choice might seem like an oversight, but celebrity style expert Rochelle White suggests it’s a deliberate move to create an illusion of height. Long clothing can elongate the body and shape, making the wearer look taller and highlighting or covering specific areas.

During their tour of Nigeria, Meghan showcased several long outfits. In Abuja, she wore a blush silk Windsor dress by Heidi Merrick, retailing for £1,106, which skimmed the floor as she danced at the Wuse Lightway Academy. Similarly, in Lagos, she wore a Carolina Herrera Silk Overlay Column gown in vibrant yellow, which trailed along the grass lawn.

Dating back to 2019, Meghan wore long black trousers that trailed along the floor in Edinburgh

At the Invictus Games in Frankfurt, Meghan’s all-brown ensemble included taupe trousers that trailed on the floor. Standing next to 6ft 2in Prince Harry, her outfit made her appear taller despite barely reaching his shoulder. White notes that these styles highlight Meghan’s silhouette and make her look taller.

This trend isn’t new for Meghan. In 2018, during a trip to Edinburgh, she wore lengthy black trousers that dragged on the wet concrete. Her relaxed, personal style contrasts with the Princess of Wales, who opts for more traditional, fitted clothing. Meghan’s wardrobe features trendy pieces like off-the-shoulder tops, shorts, and co-ords, reflecting her personality and what works best for her.
