An NYPD officer whose courageous cop father was gunned down in the line of duty when she was just a little girl is set to be promoted on Friday.
Officer Francesca Mosomillo, 28, will be promoted to detective after first joining the NYPD in 2019.
She is the daughter of Anthony Mosomillo, who was killed in 1998 while attempting to bring in a drug dealer who had skipped out on a court date.
“I am so excited, Francesca worked very hard for this,” Francesca’s mother and Mosomillo’s widow, Margaret, told The Post. “I have cried so many times in the last 26 years but today these are not sad tears, they are happy tears.
“Anthony would be extremely proud of her,” Margaret said.
The soon-to-be Detective Mosomillo will be issued her father’s old police officer’s shield number, 20316, on her badge.
Also being promoted Friday is Lt. Conor McDonald, whose father Steven McDonald was paralyzed after being shot by a teen in the line of duty in 1986.
Lt. McDonald, 37, will be promoted to captain.
His mother, Patti Ann McDonald, was pregnant with Conor when his father was shot.
“I am extremely proud of Conor, I know how hard he worked for this,” Patti Ann said.
When Conor passed the captain’s test in 2022, his daughter Grady was four months old. Now his wife, Katie, is pregnant with their second child.
“His wife was so supportive while he studied even though she was pregnant at the time. I know how important this is for both of them,” Patti Ann said.
Conor is a fourth generation NYPD officer. His father lived for more than 30 years with the help of a ventilator after his injury, and died at 59 in 2017 after having forgiven his shooter.
Patti Ann said she knows Steven would have been beaming with pride if he was here to see Conor’s latest promotion.
“Had such a big smile when he was sworn in, and again when he was promoted to sergeant. He was so glad he became a cop,” she said. “I know he would’ve been beaming when Conor gets his Captain’s shield.
“Once again, Steven was right, this is Conor’s calling,” she added.
