On December 9th, Japanese baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani officially joined the Los Angeles Dodgers after signing a 10-year contract worth $700 million.

Shohei Ohtani (born 1994) is a baseball player born in Oshu, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. Before leaving the Los Angeles Angels to join the Dodgers with a record-breaking contract, Shohei Ohtani played for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in the Japanese professional baseball league (NPB).

In October 2016, Shohei Ohtani set a record for the fastest pitch in NPB history with a speed of 165 km/h. In 2017, the 1994-born athlete won the AL Rookie of the Year 2018 award.
