Anne Hathaway was overcome with emotion as fans showed their support for her new rom-com, in which she stars alongside Nicholas Galitzine.

The world premiere of The Idea Of You took place at SXSW at The Paramount Theatre, in Austin, Texas, on Saturday.

It centres around art gallery worker and single mother Sophie, played by Anne, 41, who falls for a young hot musician, played by Nicholas, 29.

Speaking to the audience at the post-screening Q&A, Anne became emotional as she spoke of how coming-of-age stories don’t have to solely focus on youngsters.

‘We talk about coming-of-age stories as being something that happens to you in the earliest part of your life, and I don’t know about you, but I feel like I keep blooming,’ she told her adoring fans.

Anne got choked up as fans cheered for her during the Q&A. ‘I can’t talk,’ she said as her voice broke.

A fan called out ‘I love you,’ to which Anne responded: ‘I love you so much.

‘You have no idea the gift that you’ve just given us with your responsiveness, by being so connected to every little nuance in this. I will never forget this screening.’

Anne added: ‘When Cathy [Schulman] and Gabrielle [Union] so generously offered me the part, I was thrilled to say yes.’

Divorced Sophie, 40, falls for boy-band member Hayes Campbell, 24, when they have a chance meeting at the Coachella music festival in the desert.

She feels intimidated by the younger and very famous singer and says she is ‘too old’ for him, but he does not care and pursues her.

Sophie is then caught up in the fame machine as photos of them making out on a beach leak and she has to deal with being the ‘girlfriend’ to a famous man.

At Saturday’s screening, Bottoms star Nicholas said of his and Anne’s chemistry reading prior to his casting: ‘These rooms can be extremely intimidating and unnatural, but there was something almost spiritual that happened there, whereby I felt this immediate connection to Annie.

‘We had a simpatico, a shared sense of humour. It was just very easy. I remember leaving that room thinking, “Regardless of what happens with this, I am so proud of this special thing that happened there.” They gave me a call the next day: “We want you to be a part of this movie”.’

The Prime Video film adaptation of the popular romance book inspired by Harry Styles, The Idea Of You. The release date is March 16, 2024.

The movie is directed by Michael Showalter, who previously helmed The Eyes Of Tammy Faye and The Big Sick.

Jennifer Westfeldt, who has starred in Friends With Kids, Kissing Jessica Stein and more, has written the script and will also serve as executive producer.

The Idea Of You was produced by Anne, Cathy Schulman, Gabrielle Union, Kian Gass, Eric Hayes, Jordana Mollick, and the author of the book, Robinne Lee. Production started in October 2022.

The book, released in 2017, was dubbed a ‘sleeper hit’ by Vogue with sales increasing every year since it’s release.

Robinne said the idea came to her during a late night YouTube search – when she stumbled across Harry Styles.

‘A few years ago, my husband was away on business and I was up late surfing music videos on YouTube when I came across the face of a boy I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise. It was like…art,’ she said in a 2017 interview with blogger Deborah Kalb.

‘I spent a good hour or so Googling and trying to figure out who this kid was and in doing so I discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted.’

‘This was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles,’ Robinne told the fashion magazine in 2020.

‘It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her 𝑠e𝑥uality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole.’

While Styles may have sparked the book idea, Robinne used multiple sources to build Hayes.

‘Inspired is a strong word,’ Lee said after she was asked if Harry was the inspiration behind the book.
