Flau’jae Johnson beams with pride for Angel Reese following the WNBA Draft.
The sight of Angel Reese’s name being called during the WNBA Draft filled her LSU teammate, Flau’jae Johnson, with immense pride. Johnson shared her emotions upon witnessing Reese’s achievement, emphasizing her joy and pride in her fellow LSU teammate’s success.
Reflecting on their journey, Johnson described Reese’s draft selection as a victory for both of them and disclosed that they had a heartfelt conversation following the momentous event.
Reese’s journey led her to the Chicago Sky in the WNBA Draft held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. Her exceptional collegiate career has solidified her legacy in both LSU and women’s basketball history, inspiring Johnson to pursue her own dreams.
Johnson, speaking on NBA Unplugged with Kevin Hart, hailed Reese as a ‘legendary’ figure in LSU women’s basketball, expressing her jubilation at witnessing her teammate’s accomplishment.
While Reese soared as the seventh overall pick in this year’s draft, Johnson remains determined to follow suit and fulfill her own aspirations in due time. Leading the Lady Tigers in the upcoming season, she aims to chase another national title.
Meanwhile, Reese faced a pivotal decision regarding her future, with the option to return to LSU for another season. Despite the appeal of such a prospect among fans, Reese opted to enter the draft, citing her desire to embrace the challenges of being a rookie once again.
“Returning would have been fulfilling, but I craved something more personal. I yearned to start afresh. Since the [2023] national championship, I’ve been riding high. I want to experience adversity, to learn and grow from it,” Reese articulated her decision.
While Reese played a pivotal role in LSU’s 2023 national title victory, this season saw the Tigers exit the Elite Eight, as the Iowa Hawkeyes exacted revenge for their previous defeat.
