Not many would understand the pressure that Caitlin Clark feels at any given moment. However, another first-round pick can certainly try to. Although pressing the fact that everyone’s journey in the W is different, Jewell Loyd still shares what her rookie year was like. But the biggest difference was that she had many legendary vets, like Sue Bird, looking out for her. So, with a little different shoe to wear, what does the 2015 first lottery pick have to say to another?
In her post-game conference, a reporter asks Loyd about what she would like to advise this draft class, specifically Caitlin Clark. To this, the game-high scorer responded, “I remember just having fun. Honestly, I came into a team where there was a lot of vets. So, I really just had to learn. I wasn’t trying to put any of the pressure on myself and that allowed me to be Rookie of the Year. So, everyone’s journey is different. Everyone has their own ups and downs. I can’t speak for anyone else but myself. But I just let the game come to me.”
The 2x ACC Tournament MVP who had given some great successes to Notre Dame, advanced to the drafts one year earlier. Talking about that, she added, “But I left early because I felt like I was ready. I had confidence in my abilities, knowing that I’m supposed to be here. I made a mark for myself. And like I said, everyone’s journey is different, but I feel like I made the right decision.”
Jewell Loyd has been one of the top performers in the league. She also has the sixth spot in the all-time leading scorers in the W. Hence, a word of advice should definitely go a long way for Caitlin Clark who is the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer.
How is Caitlin Clark doing so far?
Tonight, Clark was able to regain her momentum against the Seattle Storm. In the back-and-forth battle, she contributed 21 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 blocks to Indiana’s 83. Overall, she has been making some good numbers in terms of a rookie who has only played five games so far. Despite defeat in every game, she has managed to build her numbers.
Currently, Caitlin Clark is dropping 17.8 points on average. She has an accuracy of 40.3% from the field and 32.6% accuracy from beyond the arc. Moreover, she is also developing her defensive skills as she averages 4.6 rebounds and 1 block per outing. Keeping up with her playmaking, she is delivering 5.8 assists on every clip as well.
Gradually, Clark is transforming into a professional hooper with some physicality and a lot more quickness. Although she has a long road to walk, it will certainly be exciting and interesting to see how she develops as a full-blown WNBA athlete.
