The Las Vegas Aces with A’ja Wilson and Co. achieved a rare feat last WNBA season. With two consecutive championships in their bags, they became only the third WNBA franchise to repeat as champions and the first to do so in more than two decades.
And as champions often do, they visited the White House recently for a chance to meet the POTUS. But everyone noticed two of their rookies, Kate Martin and Dyaisha Fair, were missing from the group photograph. Despite grabbing so much attention while joining the Aces, why did the two new faces not join the team?
The answer is simple. They became part of the roster this year while the team won last year. Hence, only the members who wore the Las Vegas jersey in the 2023 WNBA season met Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and others. The Aces’ official Instagram account shared the news with their 365,000 followers. They captioned the group photo, “Dressed for the occasion 🤩”
Indeed, the stars in the Aces did not fall short of shining brightly in the White House. Showcasing the best styles from their wardrobe, A’ja Wilson wore a yellow suit skirt, Kelsey Plum wore a pink power suit, Alysha Clark chose to go with the aesthetic pale white suit, and so on.
While the stars of the 2023 Aces roster did display their best off the court, they are also preparing to show off their supreme self as the 2024 WNBA season is just around the corner. What are their plans for this year as they look to become the first team since the Houston Comets in the first four years of the league to win a three-peat?
A’ja Wilson and the Aces on a three-peat mission
The Sky is not the limit for the Las Vegas team. Hence, after winning two championships, they are returning this season with their minds set on another ring.
While they have recently lost one of the best leaders and a legend in Candace Parker, they have welcomed two rookies who are more than fit for the job, or at least try for it. Kate Martin was also ‘the Glue’ in her previous team at Iowa for being the leader and supporter. At the same time, she could do some magic on the offensive front as well.
At the same time, the Aces also drafted Dyaisha Fair as the 16th overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft. Kelsey Plum and Alysha Clark both defined the rookie saying, “Really just a bucket. Just someone that comes in and instant offense.” Fair was also amongst just a few Syracuse products to get drafted in the WNBA and the first Orange that the W invited to the draft event.
The two truly have a lot to prove and make their names known to the world. Hence, it will be interesting to see how they bring their respective talents to the floor and impress the vets like A’ja Wilson further.
