It was suggested the ex-Iowa Hawkeyes’ shooter belongs in a kitchen.
Caitlin Clark ensured she baked Michael Che a humble pie after the comedian directed a sexist joke at her during a Saturday Night Live show during which he said her retired jersey should be replaced by a kitchen item.
Che joined SNL as a writer in 2013 and became a cast member in 2014 and has co-hosted the “Weekend Update” segment on SNL alongside Colin Jost, on which he made the comments about the legendary NCAA basketball star.
Che’s comedy style is often characterized by his sharp wit, observational humor, and his willingness to tackle controversial or taboo topics.
“The University of Iowa,” Che said on the show. “Announced that basketball star Caitlin Clark will have her jersey retired and replaced with an apron.
“I am a fan, Caitlin, by the way.”
He frequently incorporates elements of social commentary into his routines, offering views on current events, race relations, and other cultural issues and this time he centered on sexism.
But Clark didn’t appreciate it and questioned his support for her as she hit back by saying, “Really, Michael? Because I heard that little apron joke you did,” before bringing up examples of him attacking women’s sport in the past.
The pair did remain on good terms, however. Che wished Clark good luck in the draft and in turn, Clark presented him with a signed apron and joked that he doesn’t have a girlfriend, but it was all in good taste from the pair.
Clark roasts Che
Clark might have a reputation as an incredible basketball player and she is likely to be selected as the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft bar something unpredicted and unprecedented.
But she also has a taste for comedy herself as she made sure to have Che embarrass himself in front of national television by reading out some jokes she had wrote at his expense.
“The Indiana Fever have the first pick in this Monday’s draft,” Clark wrote and Che read. “A reminder that Indiana Fever is a WNBA team and not what Michael Che gave to dozens of women at Purdue University.”
“Netflix’s top new show is Ripley, featuring an eerily, unsettling performance by actor Andrew Scott,” He then said on Clark’s behalf. “Critics say it’s the hardest thing to watch on Netflix since Michael Che’s special Shame the Devil.”
The Women’s NBA Draft 2024 will take place on Monday, April 15 with the selections beginning at 19:30 ET at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
