The sports media community is reeling from the tragic loss of Howie Schwab, a longtime ESPN producer and statistician. Schwab, known for his role in the network’s ‘Stump the Schwab’ show, passed away at the age of 63 on Saturday. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.

ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale also took to social media to share the heartbreaking news of Schwab’s passing. Schwab’s contributions to sports media and his charismatic presence on screen will be deeply missed by colleagues and fans alike.

Howie Schwab, although predominantly a behind-the-scenes figure at ESPN since joining the network in 1987, rose to fame as the star of the sports trivia game show “Stump the Schwab” in 2004, which was hosted by the late Stuart Scott.

The show featured contestants competing against each other in sports trivia challenges, with the ultimate test being to outwit Schwab himself, renowned for his encyclopedic knowledge of sports spanning all eras.

“Stump the Schwab” enjoyed a successful four-season run before concluding in 2006. Schwab also made notable appearances during the early days of the program “First Take.”

In 2013, he departed ESPN and later transitioned to FOX Sports, where he contributed as a writer and consultant for “Sports Jeopardy!”
