Rookie sensation Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever, selected as the top pick in Monday’s WNBA Draft, is on the verge of finalizing a substantial endorsement agreement with Nike, according to sources familiar with the negotiations. The deal, poised to surpass eight figures, is anticipated to include a personalized Nike shoe, along with lucrative bonuses, sources added. Clark attracted considerable attention from major brands, including Under Armour and Adidas, both of which presented significant offers.

Clark is expected to receive a signature Nike shoe as well, those sources said, as part of a deal worth well over $20 million plus potential bonuses. Under Armour and Adidas also made sizable offers to Clark, two industry sources said.

Following the conclusion of her previous contract with Nike at the end of the college basketball season, Clark’s market value surged, fueled by her stellar performance at the University of Iowa. Her impact extended beyond the court, drawing record-breaking viewership to women’s college basketball, notably during the NCAA Tournament, where games featuring Iowa garnered unprecedented attention. The heightened interest in Clark translated into a record-breaking WNBA Draft, with viewership quadrupling compared to the previous year.

With her growing popularity, Clark emerged as a prime target for endorsement deals, securing partnerships with prominent brands like Gatorade, State Farm, and Panini. Notably, industry heavyweight Stephen Curry, through Curry Brand, engaged in discussions with Clark, underscoring her appeal and marketability. The past week underscored Clark’s mainstream appeal, highlighted by her appearance on “Saturday Night Live” and soaring jersey sales on draft night, signaling her swift ascent to stardom in the sports world.

Addressing reporters in her post-draft press conference, Clark emphasized that transitioning to the professional realm hasn’t altered her approach to off-court endeavors.

“If I’m being completely honest, I feel like it doesn’t change a ton from how I lived my life over the course of the last year,” she said. “Sponsorships stay the same. The people around me, agents and whatnot, have been able to help me and guide me through the course of the last year. I don’t know if I would be in this moment if it wasn’t for a lot of them.”
