UConn women’s basketball star Paige Bueckers went viral for her enthusiasm towards her Huskies teammates getting selected at the WNBA Draft on Monday night.

Bueckers stood among the crowd at the Brooklyn Academy of Music while Aaliyah Edwards and Nika Muhl awaited their turn to be called.

As the selections unfolded, cameras captured Bueckers cheering on her teammates, recording their moments as they stepped onto the stage and were welcomed into the WNBA. Fans quickly took to social media to applaud Bueckers’ enthusiasm for her fellow Huskies.

“I don’t know if y’all see it, but Paige is recording like a proud momma,” one user remarked.

Another shared a picture of Amy Poehler’s character from the 2004 film Mean Girls and commented, “Paige Bueckers has been bringing this energy all draft long, and it’s very good.”

In a nod similar to the Mean Girls reference, a third user shared a photo of Bueckers recording her teammates alongside a snapshot of Kris Jenner holding a camcorder at one of her children’s recitals.

Bueckers’ captured moment with phone in hand was her reaction to Edwards being selected sixth overall by the Washington Mystics.

Shortly after, Bueckers joined the crowd in chanting “We want Nika” while awaiting the Croatian guard’s selection. Muhl was later drafted by the Seattle Storm with the 14th overall pick.

“So so so proud,” Bueckers posted on X, accompanied by two teary-eyed emojis.

Currently in her senior year at UConn, Bueckers is expected to enter the draft next year.

Despite missing much of the last two years due to consecutive knee surgeries, the six-footer played a crucial role in guiding the Huskies through their playoff run as they aimed to reclaim their championship status. UConn’s journey concluded in the Final Four with a loss to Caitlin Clark and Iowa.
