Following the Lakers’ Game 2 defeat against the Denver Nuggets, Sharpe was direct in his assessment of Rui Hachimura’s performance.

Known for his outspoken commentary, Sharpe criticized Hachimura’s underwhelming performance on both offense and defense. He even went as far as suggesting the possibility of illicit activity, drawing a comparison to Michael Porter Jr.’s brother, who faced a league ban for betting on games.

“Rui, I don’t know, maybe he is talking to Michael Porter Jr.’s brother. Because I think he took the under on the 10 points the bettors had him. I’m saying that tongue in cheek. But I’m saying, bro, how you miss that many easy layups? How you have three points?”

Rui Hachimura struggled in both games against the Denver Nuggets. In Game 1, he attempted only four shots, making two of them for a total of seven points. In Game 2, Hachimura went 1 for 7 from the field in 38 minutes of play, scoring just 3 points while contributing five rebounds, as reported by ESPN.com.

Regarding the mention of Jontay Porter, Shannon Sharpe was referring to the former Toronto Raptors player who received a lifetime ban from the NBA for violating the league’s gambling policy. The NBA’s investigation revealed that Porter intentionally limited his involvement in a game against the Sacramento Kings to influence the outcome of bets placed on his performance.

Sharpe seems to suggest that Rui Hachimura’s poor performance may be attributed to similar reasons.
