Formerly, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had aspirations of becoming a country music performer.
The 51-year-old Hollywood celebrity, who has made successful lives for himself as an actor, businessman, and WWE superstar, recalled his late father.
He was exposed to the Southern genre by Rocky Johnson, a professional wrestler who passed away in 2020 at the age of 75.
“By the time I was eight years old, I could sing every song by Hank Jr., a lot of songs by Hank Sr., songs by Merle Haggard, and songs by Johnny Paycheck,” he said to Entertainment Tonight.
“We were impoverished when I was fifteen years old and living in Nashville. I had the brilliant notion that I could become a country music star while I was staying in a motel.
I attempted to enter Tootsie’s Famous Orchid Lounge after heading down to Broad Street and hanging out in several honky-tonks.
“You know how I miss my dad and country music makes me feel closer to him? It was one of the ways that we bonded, and I lost him suddenly in 2020. Before the enormous, bright lights of the WWE, my dad was a professional wrestler. We resided in Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida for this reason.”
The “Black Adam” actor has now made an appearance in the music video for country artist Chris Janson’s most recent song, “Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get.” He hopes that the two of them may collaborate once again for a performance honoring his father at the Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee.
“It’s just [going to be] so much more than a song,” he continued, if there is ever a time when we perform live at the Opry. It’s a brotherhood that also symbolizes the bond between a father and son.
“I’ll just make the call right here. We’ll just title it ‘A Night For Rocky’ when we make our Opry debut together.
