Swizz Beatz recently shared an interesting anecdote about his collaboration with Lil Wayne on the hit song “Uproar.”
Speaking on Mike Tyson’s Hot Boxin’ podcast alongside DJ Whoo Kid, the renowned Ruff Ryders producer revealed that Wayne initially wasn’t too pleased with some changes he made to the track.
Swizz explained how he tweaked Wayne’s vocals and restructured parts of the song, particularly the chorus, which Wayne wasn’t initially on board with. However, after some discussion with Mack Maine, the president of Young Money, Wayne eventually gave his approval.
Despite the initial disagreement, Swizz’s alterations proved to be a wise decision, as “Uproar” became a huge success, peaking at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning double platinum certification from the RIAA for selling two million copies domestically.
The track, released in 2018 as the lead single from Lil Wayne’s album “Tha Carter V,” heavily samples G. Dep and Diddy’s “Special Delivery,” which itself was a hit in 2001.
This isn’t the first time Lil Wayne has had creative differences with Swizz Beatz in the studio. In 2011, Wayne expressed dissatisfaction with their leaked collaboration “Dear Anne,” stating that the verses were old and he didn’t like using outdated material. However, despite his reservations, Wayne’s associates encouraged him to keep the track, recognizing its potential.
Beyond his music career, Lil Wayne has recently ventured into the world of skateboarding. Last month, the 40-year-old received his first-ever “pro model” board from Phil Lopez, a videographer for Young Money Skate. In a heartwarming video, Wayne is seen overwhelmed with emotion as he receives custom skateboards adorned with a childhood photo and his favorite rap lyrics, marking a new milestone in his illustrious career.
