In this electrifying track, dropped on Friday (April 5), Weezy and Thugger make it clear that family is the priority above all else, with a notable nod to luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet featured in the hook.
The duo collaboratively delivers the chorus, with Young Thug soulfully singing: “Family the only thing I love/ Half a million ’cause my AP gold, gold, gold.”
HHDX YouTube Video Player – Play ButtonYoutube Video – Lil Wayne & Young Thug Prove It’s Family First On New Wheezy-Produced Song ‘Bless’ “Bless” serves as the debut single from Lil Wayne and Wheezy’s highly-anticipated joint project, Weezy Vs. Wheezy, for which an official release date has yet to be announced.
This release also marks the third collaboration between Wayne and Thug, following their tracks “Take Care” in 2014 and “Out West” from Wayne’s 2020 album No Ceilings 3.
While their latest collaboration suggests a positive rapport, their history hasn’t always been so harmonious.
Young Thug and Lil Wayne’s relationship took a sour turn after Thug initially named his 2015 mixtape Carter 6, which he later changed to Barter 6.
Wayne responded vehemently during a concert shortly after the project’s release, stating: “If there were any other albums that dropped recently, tell ‘em I said, ‘Suck my dick.’”
He continued: “Carter V coming soon. Ain’t no muthafuckin’ such thing as Carter 6. And anytime y’all book them bitch ass n-ggas to come up in this muthafucka, before they say one word, tell them, ‘Tunechi said, ‘Suck my dick.’”
The tension escalated when Weezy’s tour bus was targeted in a shooting incident in Atlanta.
The suspected gunman, Jimmy “Peewee Roscoe” Winfrey, allegedly had connections to Young Thug’s YSL collective, and Thug was named as a co-conspirator in the initial indictment alongside Birdman. However, neither of them faced charges.
In a revealing 2020 interview with Million Dollaz Worth of Game, Young Thug opened up about his turbulent relationship with Lil Wayne, claiming that Wayne didn’t even acknowledge him the first time they met.
“I got that n-gga name tattooed,” he admitted. “This n-gga’s name tattooed, it’s gang. He knew [I was a fan], for sure. I’m honest. I’m just a real person. I don’t know how to be in a room and be fake.”
Thug continued: “Man, that n-gga gotdamn … the first day he didn’t dap me up. Tried me. Now my feet hurt and I’ma real stepper. Left the pimpin’ hanging. One time I dapped him up (and gave me weak dap).
“I’m like, ‘Hey listen bruh, I’m never touching your hand again.’ Just off of that. I’m a player, I’m a real player and I don’t give no fuck. Nothing about me is a groupie, no nothing! You inspired me.”
This candid revelation sheds light on the complexities of their relationship, adding fuel to the fire of their storied history in the rap world.
