After LSU’s final college game against the Caitlyn Clark-led Iowa Hawkeyes in the Final Four, Diana Taurasi found herself in hot water with LSU basketball fans due to a comment she made about star player Angel Reese.

During an alternative ESPN broadcast alongside her former UConn teammate and fellow WNBA star Sue Bird, Taurasi referenced an iconic clip of Reese waving goodbye to Middle Tennessee player Anastasiia Boldyreva after she fouled out. In a ruthless remark, Taurasi said, “Wave bye-bye to your own career.”

However, Bird quickly intervened, reminding Taurasi of Reese’s ongoing success in her college career and the likelihood of her being a top selection in the upcoming WNBA Draft. Realizing her misstep, Taurasi promptly apologized, acknowledging her error with a simple “My bad.”

The clip of Taurasi’s comment quickly circulated on X, drawing criticism from viewers who found it distasteful. Many condemned Taurasi for her remarks, highlighting the insensitivity of her statement given Reese’s accomplishments and future prospects in the sport.
