In the aftermath of a dominant Game 5 win by the Denver Nuggets, rapping legend Lil Wayne gave his candid opinion on Nikola Jokic and his status as one of the best players in NBA history. Despite his recent success, Wayne says he’s not a fan of Jokic and compared his game to that of an old dad on the basketball court.

“First of all, I don’t like Jokic. I don’t like his game,” said Wayne. “Some people say he got an old-school game I guess but that’s an older school than I’m from because he looks like the Dad of the YMCA player!”

As a lifelong Lakers fan, it makes sense why Lil Wayne is struggling to embrace the Joker as the best player in the game. Last season, Jokic led the charge in a 4-0 series sweep against the Lakers which ended their Western Conference playoff run in its tracks.

This year, in their first-round meeting, the Nuggets again knocked out the Lakers and it came rather easily in a 5-game series. Jamal Murray hit two game-winners, but it was Jokic who powered everything for the Nuggets, and his rise to power came at the expense of many teams in the Western Conference. The Lakers have arguably been impacted the most as they had lost 11 straight to the franchise before pulling off a miracle in Game 3 of this year’s playoffs.

So, while the Joker may not move, act, or look like a top-flight NBA superstar, his dominance cannot be denied, and his place among the best of the best is fully secured. With one more game to win in the series, the job is not yet finished for Jokic, and the critics will come out in full force if he suffers any more setbacks moving forward.

Nikola Jokic Is Proving Everyone Wrong

In the first two games against the Timberwolves, the Nuggets looked completely outmatched and they were getting outplayed at every turn. Even Jokic, who usually maintains complete poise and composure on the court, seemed to be unraveling with frustration.

All across the NBA media world, critics panned Jokic, Murray, and the Nuggets for their collapse and many argued that they were destined to get swept in the series. Some even questioned if Jokic was worthy of his MVP victory this year.

But when the Nuggets rallied in a blowout win in Game 3, it shattered all of the narratives and proved once and for all that Jokic was more than capable of rising to the occasion. Unlike many other stars today, Jokic can respond with his back against the wall, and it’s got the Nuggets on the verge of a trip to the Western Conference Finals.

As a champion, 3x MVP, and 6x All-Star, another title at this stage would put Jokic on par with some of the game’s all-time greatest legends and there’s no reason to think that’s not where he’s headed after such an amazing display over the past few games. Love him or hate him, the Joker cannot be denied and Lakers fans like Lil Wayne can only watch as the NBA’s newest alpha dog protects his place at the top.
