Flau’jae Johnson felt immense pride witnessing her LSU teammate, Angel Reese, secure a spot in the WNBA through the draft. Reflecting on Reese’s accomplishment, Johnson conveyed her emotions and emphasized the significance of this achievement for both of them. Following the draft, the two teammates had a discussion about the momentous event.
Reese’s selection by the Chicago Sky during the WNBA Draft at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York marked a pivotal moment in her career. Her remarkable performance throughout college has cemented her legacy in LSU and women’s basketball history. Johnson revealed that Reese’s draft pick has ignited her own aspirations.
Below are Flau’jae Johnson’s sentiments regarding Angel Reese’s induction into the WNBA from LSU.
“It has definitely fired me like, she was literally my teammate in college and now she is pursuing her dream in the draft which is also a dream of mine.
The Tigers guard called Reese ‘legendary’ for what she did as an LSU women’s basketball player. She said that she felt like being on the stage when the ‘Bayou Barbie’s name was called.
“I felt like I was up there at the draft. I was so happy for her,” she added.
As Reese celebrates being chosen as the seventh overall pick in this year’s draft, Johnson patiently awaits her turn to pursue her aspirations.
In the meantime, Johnson will be spearheading the Lady Tigers in the upcoming season, aiming to secure another national title.
Angel Reese Contemplates Restarting as a Rookie
Despite having the opportunity to extend her tenure at LSU for another season, Angel Reese ultimately opted to enter the draft. While many fans hoped for her return, the standout player dismissed that notion, expressing her desire to experience being a rookie once more.
“Coming back would have been amazing for me, but I wanted it more for myself. I wanted to start over. I feel like I’ve been on a high since the [2023] national championship. I wanna hit rock-bottom. I wanna be a rookie again. I wanna be knocked down by vets. I wanna get up and grow and be a sponge,” she said on the matter.
Angel Reese helped LSU win the national title in 2023, by overcoming Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the final. This season, however, the Tigers crashed out of the Elite Eight as the Hawkeyes completed their revenge.
