Having previously declined to commit to the school a few days ago, Hailey Van Lith has now decided to transfer to TCU. She joins the Horned Frogs as their latest addition from the transfer portal, contributing to their efforts to build a formidable team for the upcoming college basketball season in 2024-25.
The talented point guard entered the transfer portal after the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, signaling the end of her lone year at LSU. Her tenure in Baton Rouge was underwhelming, failing to meet expectations.
Following Van Lith’s announcement of her transfer to TCU, Cameron Brink expressed her enthusiasm about the news. The first-round pick of the Los Angeles Sparks promptly took to the comment section to show her support for Van Lith as she embarks on this new journey.
“Yup yuppp,” Brink wrote.
Hailey Van Lith previously denied joining TCU
It was previously reported on April 18 that Hailey Van Lith would transfer to TCU. However, she refuted those rumors in an official statement to Doug Feinberg of The Associated Press on April 21, asserting that the decision on her next destination had not yet been finalized.
“I visited TCU and am very interested in them. However, I have also visited other schools and found them equally compelling. I haven’t made an official commitment yet, but I’m very close. No ink has touched the paper for any school,” Van Lith told the Associated Press.
Nevertheless, the point guard is making her way to Fort Worth just a few days after issuing the statement. Few would have predicted her decision to come this swiftly. It’s speculated that her pursuit of a spot on the United States 3×3 Olympic team might have contributed to the delay.
Can Hailey Van Lith find her stride again with the Horned Frogs?
Hailey Van Lith enjoyed a stellar junior season at Louisville before transferring to LSU. She boasted averages of 19.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, earning her a first-team All-ACC accolade. Her remarkable growth from her freshman year to that point was unmistakable.
However, her tenure at LSU didn’t pan out as expected. While her performance wasn’t lackluster, there were higher expectations. She posted averages of 11.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists, aiding the Tigers in reaching the Elite Eight.
Undoubtedly, Hailey Van Lith is looking to rediscover her form at TCU, and it could prove to be a conducive environment for that. With a star-studded team assembled and ready to compete, TCU promises Van Lith an enriching experience in her final season of college basketball.
